Kamloops Blazers win 4-2 over Portland Winterhawks

KAMLOOPS — Goaltender Connor Ingram had another stellar night between the pipes and forward Jake Kryskiscored the winning goal with 2:13 to play in a 4-2 victory over the Portland Winterhawks.

The Blazers started out well and had the game’s first power play. 

Garrett Pilon put a shot towards the net and Nick Chyzowski tipped home his 11th goal of the season for a 1-0 Blazers lead 3:51 into the game. 

Connor Ingram and Adin Hill were busy in the first period as the two goaltenders faced a combined 32 shots in the frame, but the Blazers held a 1-0 lead after the first period. 

Garrett Pilon gave the Blazers a 2-0 lead 2:27 into the second period. He cut to the middle on the rush and snapped a shot past the glove side of Hill. 

Alex Schoenborn got the Winterhawks back within a goal four minutes into the second period. He snuck behind the Blazers defense and scored his 19th goal of the season on a breakaway.

The Blazers held the fort as they took a 2-1 lead into the third period. 

The third period was back and forth with both teams getting some solid chances. Both goaltenders were terrific in the game as the two teams combined for 43 shots apiece. 

The Winterhawks tied the game with 4:47 to go on a power play. Jack Dougherty’s shot went through a maze of bodies and beat Ingram on the blocker side to make it 2-2. 

The Blazers made up for it with 2:13 to play. Deven Sideroff fed Jake Kryski on an odd man rush and Kryski scored his ninth of the season to give the Blazers a 3-2 lead. 

An unfortunate clearing attempt over the glass left the Blazers shorthanded with 1:38 to play. 

Collin Shirley iced the game with a shorthanded empty net goal with 40 seconds to play to help the Blazers to a 4-2 win. 

The Blazers finished 1-for-1 on the power play and they were 4-for-5 on the penalty kill. Shots ended up tied at 43-43. 

The Blazers will play three road games next week in Tri-City on Tuesday, Seattle on Wednesday and in Everett on Friday. 

The Blazers will return home for a game at 5:00pm on Saturday, February 6th against the Edmonton Oil Kings for Hockey Day in Canada!
