KAMLOOPS — Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo MP Cathy McLeod is calling on the Trudeau government to stand with the province of BC in opposing the First Nations land claim on the Ajax mine property.

McLeod says she believes, as Kamloops MLAs Todd Stone and Terry Lake said earlier this week, the claim threatens private property ownership in the Kamloops area.

“We have a long way to go in terms of settling issues around land with our First Nations communities, but we need to ensure that people have the confidence that private property is protected, and that we are going to stand up in terms of that particular issue,” said McLeod.

Skeetchestn Indian Band Chief Ron Ignace told CFJC Today this week that the bands are chiefly concerned with the Jacko Lake property proposed for the Ajax copper-gold mine.
