Wolfpack Men’s Basketball sweep Griffins

KAMLOOPS — The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack are leaving Edmonton with a sweep in Canada West men’s basketball.

After beating the MacEwan University Griffins on Friday (Jan 15), the ‘Pack took MacEwan 71-69 on Saturday (Jan 16). The victory gives Scott Clark’s WolfPack a record of 10-2 to lead the Explorer Division. MacEwan falls to 5-7.

The WolfPack were led offensively by Josh Wolfram (5th year, forward, Kamloops, BC). He had 21 points. Volodymyr Iegorov (4th year, forward, Donetsk, Ukraine) had a ‘double double’ with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Reese Pribilsky (5th year, guard, Victoria, BC) added 17 points while Luke Morris (3rd year, forward, Mission, BC) had 11 points coming off the bench.
The teams were tied at 15 after the first quarter with the WolfPack leading 34-30 at the break. TRU outscored MacEwan 24-17 in the final quarter to come away with the victory.

MacEwan had five players in double figures: Denzel James had 17 coming off the bench. Thadius Galvez added 16 points with Ryan May potting 12, Keith Gerdes scored 11 and Chris Mooney contributed 10 points
Both teams had 43 rebounds apiece with the MacEwan bench outscoring the TRU reserves 17-16.

“Anytime you can go on the road and come away with a pair of victories then you have to be happy,” said Clark. “We are getting balanced scoring and it was nice to see Luke come off the bench and get some points for us. But we can’t rest on what we did this weekend. We need to turn our attention to our next opponent.”

That opponent will be the Mount Royal University Cougars. TRU returnsn home for their first games of the 2016 calendar year. They host the Cougars Friday January 22nd at the Tournament Capital Center. Tip off on the Warner Rentals Court will be 8 pm.
