First glimpse into snowpack situation

KAMLOOPS — The first snowpack reading of the season is in, and the Kamloops area is almost as close to normal as we could get.

According to the BC River Forecast Centre, the North Thompson basin sits at 97 per cent of normal snowpack for this time of year, and the South Thompson is exactly on the average.

The centre’s Dave Campbell says most of the province is hovering around the normal mark, but the south is in better shape than the north.

“Certainly [the] southern half of the province is quite close to normal, little pockets of higher than normal, and as we work our way north things kind of trickle off and trend more towards the lower then normal side of things,” said Campbell.
