Fire in Pritchard destroys shed and damages neighbours home

PRITHCARD, B.C.,— The Pritchard Volunteer Fire Department confirmed a detached shed was destroyed in a fire Friday night.

Fire Chief Marc Coray says they responded around 9:55 pm to 1361 Bostock Crescent.

He says the owners home was not damaged.

“Our biggest problem was a water supply issue with a hydrant that didn’t work,” says Coray.

He says the hydrant issue did delay their response efforts, “we had to establish another source of water by running the line to another hydrant. The Village of Chase dispatched a water tanker but fortunately we stood them down when we established another water source”.

Meantime, a neighboring Pritchard woman is expressing overwhelming gratitude after the fire department helped save her home during the blaze.

Judy Cruickshank lives at 4929 Anckar Road and says she was in bed last night when her neighbors garage caught fire only feet from her home.

A tearful Cruickshank says she saw her bedroom window all in red before she ran outside and called 911.

She says part of the siding of her home melted off from the heat but says the damage was nothing compared to her neighbors garage.

No one was injured in the fire and the cause will be investigated by the Thompson Regional District.
