KAMLOOPS — Both CN Rail and the provincial Ministry of Environment are confirming a major fuel spill in the Kamloops CN railyard on Christmas Day.

According to a spokesperson for CN Rail, about 7000 litres of diesel fuel spilled during a transfer from a railcar to a contractor's truck.

CN says the fuel was cleaned up promptly and didn't pollute any waterways.

It goes on to say no one was injured and there was no risk to the public.

The company did not provide an explanation of what caused the spill to occur.
