KAMLOOPS — The spirit of Christmas was felt at NorKam Secondary School this afternoon as teachers and community volunteers gave back to the students.

Over 700 people packed the gymnasium where they enjoyed a warm turkey dinner together.

For some students it may even be their only opportunity to enjoy such a meal this holiday season.

Unlike most lunch breaks across school districts, the entire student and teacher body here at NorKam celebrated Christmas together over a turkey luncheon today.

What makes this third annual turkey dinner so unique is the fact the students were served by their teachers and other community volunteers.

The preparation was a collaborative effort and the purpose is to celebrate like a “family”.

Among those who volunteered their time to feed over 750 people, was local RCMP members, Kamloops Rotary, retired teachers and former students.

Principal Jonathan Brady describes the morale during today’s luncheon as  “invaluable “.

“If we were in the hallway, it’s amazing the number of kids that come up and say thank you. That’s why a lot of people come back to volunteer, is the number of kids that have a sincerer thank you for what we’ve provided them today,”says Brady.
