Be prepared: Winter weather expected to return

KAMLOOPS — After a blast of Winter at the end of November, temperatures have warmed up to above seasonal normals in the region.

Despite that, it doesn’t mean motorists using area highways are in the clear.

As we move into the holiday season, there will be more vehicles on the highways, going home to visit family for Christmas.

“The weather can change in a matter of hours, and it’s really slow down, drive to the conditions that are presented to you,” said Sgt. Mike Pears, with the Central Interior Traffic Service. Pears added, “Really the important thing here is to leave yourself lots of time to travel”

With flurries forecast for the next couple days around Kamloops, drivers have to be prepared for anything on the road.

Central Interior Traffic Services is finding many drivers are getting the necessary tires for winter driving.

“We have run across a few collisions where people have inadequate tires on there, and that is their fault for not checking before they left,” said Pears, adding the final message, “You’ve got to be prepared.”
