KAMLOOPS — A member of the watchdog group ‘Mining Watch Canada’ is in town this week to speak to community groups about their concerns with the proposed Ajax mine project.

Ugo Lapointe, the Canada Program Coordinator for the group, says he’s in Kamloops to discuss with residents and First Nations groups the potential impact the mine could have on the city.

Lapointe says there are some key issues that need to be addressed moving forward.

KGHM’s Ajax Project Application and Environmental Impact Statement passed the screening by the BC Environmental Assessment Office, bringing the project one step closer to reality.

The company intends to submit the 18,000 page application to the Provincial and Federal Governments in January, meaning that document will be released to public for a full review.
