Pickup truck slams into a Tanker truck

RCMP confirm Highway 1 has fully reopened after a truck fire this morning near Peterson Creek Bridge. 

Kamloops RCMP had a portion of the Trans Canada Highway closed. That after Kamloops Fire Rescue received a report of a tanker truck fire at 5:30am.

Upon arrival Kamloops Fire Rescue determined a pickup truck had actually slammed into the back of a tanker truck, causing a fire. Assistant Fire Chief Dave McMahon says his crews knocked down the fire but says concern was raised that the valve system in the back of the tanker had been compromised.
 

 

As a result emergency personnel closed a section of Highway 1 and began evacuating area homes between 11th Avenue downtown and 13th Avenue. Everyone has since been told they can return home.

B.C. Ambulance confirmed two people were sent to Royal Inland Hospital with "fairly serious injuries".

RCMP are now investigating the cause of the accident.
