Voting Set For Vernon Arena Referendum

After much debate in the community, it’s almost time for people to decide Greater Vernon’s Arena referendum.

Residents of Vernon, Coldstream and RDNO Areas B and C are being asked if they support borrowing 13.25 million dollars to add a second ice sheet at Kal Tire Place

The first advance poll will be held from 8 am to 8 pm Wednesday November 18th at the Regional District office on Aberdeen Road, at Vernon City Hall, and at the Coldstream District office.

Chief election officer Paddy Juniper says you don’t have to own property to be able to vote.

“No you don’t. You have to reside in one of the qualified areas: the City of Vernon, Coldstream, or Areas B or C. You have to be 18 years or older, a Canadian citizen and you have to have lived in BC for at least 6 months,” says Juniper.

Juniper says for anyone with questions, they will have an information desk at the sites.

“The biggest question we are getting is, ‘Am I qualified to vote, and am I within the voting area?’ On our website, www.rdno.ca we have the voter eligibility map where they can type in their address and find out.”

Juniper says people can vote at ANY of the voting sites, not just the one in their community,  both for the advance polls and on general voting day.

The second and final advance poll will be held November 25th,  with general voting day on November 28th.
