Woman dies after assault in Care Home

The BC Coroners Service has confirmed another resident of a Kamloops care home has died after being attacked by a fellow resident. 84-year-old Emily Houston died on July 15th, 10 days after she was punched and pushed into a doorway by a resident at Kamloops Seniors Village.

Presiding coroner Margaret Janzen deemed Houston’s death a homicide but Kamloops RCMP say they investigated and charges were not warranted.

Houston’s daughter Nancy Bradley says her mother’s attacker was someone who suffered from dementia and that wasn’t clear when she first received the call. Bradley says her mother was moved into a room previously occupied by a woman suffering from dementia and that the attack was the result of the previous occupant simply wanting her room back.
