Blazers get first win over Victoria

It’s didn’t look pretty early, but the Blazers stuck with it and Collin Shirley scored the game-winning goal with 31 seconds left, giving Kamloops a 3-2 win over the Victoria Royals on Wednesday night.

It was Shirley’s second of the goal. He scored in the first to tie the game at 1-1, minutes after Vladimir Bobylev opened the scoring for Victoria.

The Royals led 2-1 after the first, but following a 15-minutes delay to replace a pane of glass at the Sandman Centre, the Blazers woke up and evened the score at two when the newest Blazer Gage Quinney’s shot deflected in off Matt Needham.

The game appear to be heading to overtime late in the third when Shirley scored the winner, fighting off Joe Hicketts to put a perfect shot past Coleman Vollrath and secure Kamloops’ first victory of the season over the Royals in four tries.
